Aeroflot carries a group of Russian athletes to the Tokyo Olympics

18 July 2021, Moscow – A group of the Russian Olympic Team have flown to the XXXII Olympic Games held in Tokyo. The flight carrying the athletes and Russia’s Olympic Committee officials departed Moscow Sheremetyevo Terminal D on the night of 17 into 18 July.

The check-in took place at dedicated counters in line with antiepidemic measures and requirements by Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing).

Aeroflot uses the widebody Airbus A330 aircraft to carry the groups to the Olympic Games. The modern airliners provide safe and comfortable onboard experience for the athletes, coaching and administrative staff. The air crew of the Olympic flights take additional PCR tests before departure.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic the Olympic flights are a complicated logistical operation. Due to the challenging epidemiologic situation the athletes must arrive exactly 5 days before the start of the competition. The participants of the Olympic Games shall leave the city not later than 2 days after the competition. Under these circumstances Aeroflot provides overall assistance to Russia’s Olympic Committee. The airline will operate 15 return flights to Tokyo and Vladivostok. Aeroflot Group subsidiary Rossiya Airlines will carry the athletes from Vladivostok to Tokyo. Aeroflot Group will on the whole operate 35 special Olympic flights.
