23 July 2021, Moscow — Aeroflot has begun full-scale flight operations from Terminal C of Sheremetyevo International Airport. To celebrate the landmark launch a media event was held at the airport. The attendees included Russia’s Minister of Transport Vitaly Saveliev, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of PJSC Aeroflot Mikhail Poluboyarinov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC SIA Alexander Ponomarenko, CEO of JSC SIA Mikhail Vasilenko, and other officials.
Aeroflot launched operations from the new Terminal C amid growing demand for airport capacity following the reopening of air travel to a number of countries and passenger traffic increase.
Speaking at the ceremony of opening the check-in for the first flight Moscow-Istanbul SU2134 operated by Aeroflot, Minister of Transport of Russian Federation Vitaly Saveliev highlighted the importance of Terminal C relaunch for the transport industry at large. «It has become a good tradition to come to Sheremetyevo to open new infrastructure facilities that you successfully launch. Exactly six months ago, together we took part in the opening of third runway, and today, the airport can serve up to 110 million passengers annually", Mr.Saveliev said. “Today, we relaunch international flights from modern Terminal C. It’s pleasing that we can afford such big and remarkable facilities that rival the best global hubs of Europe, North America and Asia».
In his turn, CEO of JSC SIA Mikhail Vasilenko said: «Our priority goal is to support efficient operations and long-term development of our strategic partner Aeroflot and the airlines of Aeroflot Group. Operating Aeroflot’s international flights from state-of-the-art Terminal C with its infrastructure, technological solutions and service amenities will ensure top-quality service to all passengers».
In his welcome speech CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of PJSC Aeroflot Mikhail Poluboyarinov outlined: «Operating domestic and international flights from Sheremetyevo’s Northern Terminal Complex is of great strategic significance. It will help us ramp up operations and enhance route network with convenient connections at Sheremetyevo. The start of flights from Terminal C marks a milestone in the long history of cooperation between our airline and Sheremetyevo International Airport».
Following the official part, Minister of Transport Vitaly Saveliev and Aeroflot’s top-level managers accompanied by JSC SIA’s executives took a tour of Terminal C and the services available to passengers along the way.
Terminal C is Russia’s most modern terminal, which provides top-level service to airlines and passengers. Terminal C combines high-tech facilities and unique design and architecture.
Terminal C is connected with Terminal B “under one roof”. The concept of joined buildings allows all passengers to take advantage of the services and technical amenities of both terminals, while allowing transfer passengers to navigate quickly between both terminals through transit area.
Modern constructivist media-installations introduce passengers to Russia as a country with a rich historical and cultural heritage. The interior features art objects and decorative wall panels dedicated to the history of Russian aviation and its heroes, and the information boards feature logos with the portrait of poet Alexander Pushkin.
Unique features of Terminal С:
In the future, with the commissioning of the second stage of Terminal C and new infrastructure, Sheremetyevo Airport will join the league of the largest aviation hubs in the world and strengthen its status of the main transit air hub between Europe and Asia.
