PJSC “Aeroflot” understands its social responsibility and is concerned about the well-being of the environment. The company controls its activities in the sphere and is committed to the principles of sustainable development.

PJSC “Aeroflot” adopted following policies in the sphere of environmental protection:

Quality and Environmental Policy of PJSC “Aeroflot” is aimed at improving the energy efficiency and environmental performance of air transportation of passengers, luggage, mail and cargo.

Annual environmental targets of PJSC “Aeroflot” set priorities in the reduction of environmental footprint:

  • Reduction of energy consumption
  • Reduction of pollutant emissions from flights and from ground handling and maintenance of aircrafts
  • Reduction of environmental pollution from waste generation and disposal.

To achieve the goals of its environmental policy, the Company sets the following objectives:

  • Maintain the Environmental Management System
  • Reduce the energy intensity of operations by implementing resource-saving processes and technologies
  • Manage waste with a focus on recycling
  • Monitor and analyse operations and technological processes
  • Use environmental performance metrics in the supplier and contractor selection process

Raise environmental awareness, promote resource efficiency and build a recycling culture among PJSC “Aeroflot” employees.

Managing fuel efficiency is one of Aeroflot Group’s top priorities. The use of modern aircraft reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Increased aircraft capacity and flights’ optimal load factors help to improve fuel efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint.

Quality management systems of PJSC “Aeroflot” and “Rossiya airlines” JSC are certified according to ISO 14001.

Quality management system implemented in accordance with requirements of ISO 14001:2015 ensures improvement of environmental performance.

PJSC “Aeroflot” Climate Policy

Climate Policy primary target is combating climate change.

PJSC “Aeroflot” realises programmes to strengthen its ecological responsibility and energy efficiency, performs record of GHG emissions, uses aircraft with high fuel efficiency.

PJSC “Aeroflot” seeks to ensure sustainable ecological balance in all spheres and aspects of its business. The corporate GHG emissions management system implemented in the company consists of monitoring and accounting of all CO2 emissions throughout its entire network. The system enables the airline to meet international and local requirements of carbon footprint management.

The core business of the company is air transportation, which results in combustion of aviation fuel. The share of emissions from the core business is 99% of all direct GHG emissions of the airline. Therefore, PJSC “Aeroflot” consistently carries out activities to decrease GHG emissions from aircraft.

Management of PJSC “Aeroflot” recognizes climate change as a significant factor influencing the airline business in the long term, proactively studies climate risks, measures to mitigate them and strives to use opportunities to develop low-carbon technologies.

Management of the airline supervises and is responsible for activities related to climate change and ensures compliance with the principles of the policy.
